Marty Anderson and the Goods

So, Miki has gotten herself into a situation. She plays fiddle for a townie band called Marty Anderson and the Goods -- run by lead singer Marty Anderson, his cousin Marty Anderson, and his wife, Marti Anderson.


They play at the Contented Cow in downtown Northfield.


Dylan, Jon and I came to show our support (and maybe drink cider? maybe.)


Miki is embarrassed by our presence, which means we're doing a good job.


Miki does not drink cider. She drinks sugary things.

Harvest Fest

Harvest Fest success! We didn't catch much of it on camera, but we had an excellent bout of leaf pile jumping, apple-hunting, garden harvesting, and sitting around the bonfire.


Lisa and Christina take advantage of the pumpkin carving, with pumpkins and squash grown in our very own garden.




It was colder than normal this year, so we had the musicians perform indoors.


Jon and his sister Adrianna played a set together.

The Bulk Order

The bulk order came! Miki is in love with the bulk order.

In one fell swoop...

...a giant zucchini was turned into bread and muffins.
The muffins were for Food Truth's table at the activities fair, but the loaf remained in Farm House, and was mysteriously devoured between the hours of midnight and 8:13 am. David?? Alas, who could resist warm zucchini bread with chocolate chips?

It's almost that time...

Summer has been a great adventure! I spent mine working in Columbia, Missouri for the US Geological Survey during the week and Chert Hollow Farm on the weekends. I've had fun and learned a lot, but I'm excited to be close to experiencing the wonder of fall at Farm House for the third (and sadly, last) time.


Fall 2008 Olaf Expedition

We've had a lot of turnover compared to the last couple years, so we'll have quite a few new people bringing their experiences and talents into the fold. Miki Beavis and I will be sharing management duties, which we'll be slaving away at in the upcoming weeks. At any rate, prepare for some actual updates to start coming your way soon, from the oldies and hopefully some new voices as well!

New Blog!

So, I've transfered our blog over to Blogger from our previous Wordpress location, which I'll leave up for posterity. Hopefully this version will be easier to use and more accessable to a wider carleton/internet community.

I've re-posted all of our previous stuff - and just because it's summer doesn't mean you can't still contribute! Any lingering photos and stories from last year would be good entertainment, or garden updates to keep us going until fall.

Farmstock 2009!

The '08-'09 school year came to a festive wrap with Farmstock, Farm House's very own folk music and yard-lovin' fest. We featured a fantastic musical line-up, including: Mbira, Drew Chambers, Dick Hwang, African Drums, Hannah Button-Harrison, Emily Cogsdill, Miki Beavis, Jon Walsh, Tom Brenner, Caitlin Unumb, and the Porch Collective.

Conclusions: Although there is no direct evidence supporting causality, the relationship between these data suggest that Oyster Mushrooms (Pleurotus ostreatus) may utilize Granola (Avena cardamomum) as a food source.
